Saudi Arabia’s state-owned firm Aramco discovers two new oil and gas fields

Saudi Arabia’s state-owned petroleum and natural gas firm Saudi Aramco has discovered two oil and gas fields in northern sections of Saudi Arabia.

A gas field called “Hadbat Al-Hajarah” was discovered in the Al-Jouf region and an oil field called “Abraq Al-Tuloul” was discovered in the Northern Borders region, the kingdom’s official news agency SPA reported, citing Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman.

Hadabat al Hajara gas field has a daily production rate of 16 million cubic feet (mcf) of natural gas, along with 1944 barrels per day (bpd) of oil condensate, according to the energy minister.

Meanwhile, Abraq Al Toloul oil field flows with a daily rate of 3,189bpd of Arab light crude oil. It also produces 3.5mcf of natural gas.

Abdulaziz bin Salman noted that Aramco will proceed with its efforts to estimate the overall amount of oil and gas in the two fields.

He also added that the company will drill more wells to evaluate the areas and capacities of the fields.

Last month, Saudi Aramco announced that it will be reorganising its downstream business to support its global growth strategy.

In the same month, the company issued a tender for modification works at its offshore Berri field to its long-term agreement (LTA) pool of contractors.

In June, Saudi Aramco started cutting hundreds of jobs as it seeks to reduce costs in response to the oil price crash.
