Report: Asia had highest refining capacity under maintenance in Q1

Asia had the highest refining capacity under maintenance globally during the first quarter of this year, according to a report by GlobalData.

Titled ‘Q1 2017 Global Refinery Maintenance Review – Refinery Maintenance Soars in Asia’, the report provides an overview of the global refinery maintenance market.

Asia led in terms of refining capacity under maintenance during the quarter at 4.15 million barrels a day (mmbd), followed by North America (2.62mmbd) and Europe (2.37mmbd).

Asia also led in terms of refining capacity under planned maintenance with 3.43mmbd, followed by Europe (1.75mmbd) and North America (1.34mmbd).

In terms of refining capacity under unplanned maintenance, North America led with 1.28mmbd, followed by Asia with 0.72mmbd and Europe with 0.61mmbd.

In terms of countries, the US led globally in terms of refining capacity under maintenance with 2.31mmbd, followed by India (1.37mmbd) and China (1.08mmbd).

The US was also leading in terms of both refining capacity under planned maintenance and unplanned maintenance at 1.34mmbd and 0.97mmbd respectively.

The US was followed by China (1.08mmbd) and India (0.907mmbd) in terms of refining capacity under planned maintenance, as well as by India (0.46mmbd), and the Netherlands (0.37Mbd) in terms of capacity under unplanned maintenance.

In terms of refineries, UAE’s Ruwais refinery had the highest refining capacity under maintenance, including total and planned with 0.8mmbd, followed by the Mailiao refinery in Taiwan (0.54mmbd) and Maoming in China (0.47mmbd).

The top refineries under unplanned maintenance include Lake Charles I, Rotterdam II, and Tula I at 0.42mmbd, 0.37mmbd and 0.31mmbd respectively.

In terms of operators, Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (TAKREER), Phillips 66, and Chevron had the highest refining capacity under maintenance, including total and planned at 0.8mmbd, 0.56mmbd and 0.54mmbd respectively.

Operators with the highest refining capacity under unplanned maintenance were Chevron, CITGO and BP with 0.54mmbd, 0.42mmbd and 0.37mmbd respectively.
